Christmas 2005 at The Old Reed Bed Studios

PC090123

We set off from Surrey on Friday 9th December on a chilly foggy morning.....

but when we arrived in Kent, the day had cleared to be bright and sunny.

The Old Reed Bed Studio is in an idyllic spot so close to the river that.....

the ducks are regular visitors.....

while the sheep look on.

Inside preparations were under way to transform a working studio.....

into a chic country gallery, decorated with armfuls of old man’s beard, holly, ivy and rose hips, ready to receive visitors on Saturday and Sunday.

My sister’s beautiful vases were displayed to advantage against a seasonal red backdrop.....

and stood equally proudly against the whitewashed walls.

Jean Lowe, whose studio it is, creates the most amazing monolithic forms.....

beloved by humans and ducks alike,.....

and giant shells and other objects inspired by Mother Nature.....

Does Louise Bassant get her inspiration from living in the ‘Garden of England’? Her ceramic representations of fruit are realistic, delightful, surprising and such fun!

Delicious, aren’t they?

Apples, banana skins and pears.....

Artist Chris Turner added vibrancy with his triptych based on the Rosetta stone.....

My wares were placed on a table in front of the window through which the sun streamed all weekend.....

making glass and fabric glow.....

Couldn’t have arranged it better myself.....

And so the weekend came to a close and after thanking our generous hostesses for their hospitality.....

we bade them farewell and Merry Christmas and then trundled homewards down the little lane.....
